Facebook Privacy

I found a very useful article today on the MakeUseOf web site. The article goes into some detail about what you should do to safeguard your privacy when using Facebook. I have a Facebook profile, but I rarely use it, preferring to control the information that I release through this web site instead. I can control every aspect of this site and I trust myself a great deal more than I trust Facebook!

Probably no God …

I love it! According to this article, there will soon be London Buses with the slogan “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life”.

Having recently read Richard Dawkins’ book The God Delusion, I am pleased to see that non-religious types are starting to come out of the closet to challenge the previously unchallengeable.

The advertising campaign for the buses was funded by donations, with a target of £5500. They actually raised £36,000. Champion!

Now, where is my cheque book?

Google Street View – Update

Damn, those folks at Google Street View are fast! Less than 2 hours after I found and published a photo of their drivers nose hair, they have removed the image (see link in previous post). Luckily, I have a screen shot of the original. Is that breaching privacy laws?!?

Google Street View

Google Street View has just been launched in Australia.  I was having a look around this morning for interesting views and I found this when looking our our favourite Fish and Chips restaurant at Patonga.

Looks like the driver / photographer forgot to disable the camera before he climbed onto the car to fiddle with it!  I wonder if he has any concerns about privacy!

Update: Google have removed the image from Google Street View, but I have uploaded it in another post here.

New Photos

As requested, I have uploaded more photos into the gallery.  We had a family trip to the beach at Curl Curl on Saturday to walk Wellington, followed by lunch at a cafe in Dee Why.

Wellington had a great swim in the lagoon and Miranda found that being carried in the sling is really comfortable.  Grandma and Granddad Hickey really enjoyed their lunch as well.

So far, trips out of the house have not been traumatic, although the Jeep does get pretty crowded with 4 adults, baby seat, pram, change bag, coats and the dog all piled in.

Thanks to everyone who has been checking the web site regularly for photos.  I’ve received a number of e-mails recently asking for more photos.  Be assured that there will be new photos coming as soon as I get a couple of hours of free time!

It’s a girl!

Miranda Lucy Lilly McCormack was born at 20:29 (Sydney time) on Monday 30th June 2008 weighing 4.16kg (9lb 2.8oz).  Both Deborah and Miranda are doing remarkably well.  Photos are in the Gallery.

We are now pleased to be home after spending five nights in hospital – one having been induced and waiting for labour and then four further nights for recovery (this is standard for a natural birth at our hospital).  Deborah was in labour for five hours and despite the epidural only partially working, there were no problems with the delivery.

As requested, the obstetrician passed Miranda to me and I then placed her on Deborah’s chest before cutting the cord.  Miranda has lost a little more of her birth weight than we would like, so we need to keep an eye on her feeding until Deborah’s milk comes in fully.

It is great to be home and sleeping in our own bed, despite it only being for two hours at a time due to the feeding plan to increase Miranda’s weight.

Speaking of which – I need to have a nap now!  More news later.
